The John Palmer Residence

Silsbee's popularity for designing fashionable suburban residences brought him work in many of the communities surrounding Chicago.  In Riverside, Illinois, he designed two known homes.  One of these was for inventor and industrialist, John Palmer.
Palmer's home, constructed in 1895, is a variation of the Tudor style.  The first floor is shingle and the second is half-timbered stucco.  A finely detailed porch stretches across the front of the structure creating a porte cochere on the north and an open room on the south.
The home is topped with an immense shingled roof punctuated with dormers.  Another fine detail are the copper finials that top the roof crest.
